Spend time roaming ‘Planet Her’ and you’ll know that Doja Cat’s artistic vision never sleeps. The singer’s desire to develop rich musical and visual environments for her fans is job one, and this new album, her third after ‘Amala’ and ‘Hot Pink,’ is her most fully-realized statement yet. Doja has told interviewers that she wanted to take chances, try new approaches, and create “otherworldly” sounds. Job done. The same goes for our series of Official Live Performances. After sharing creative ideas with the singer and her team, our production crew got to work in a canyon outside of LA. There, assuring that “otherworldly” request was appropriately fleshed out, we built a 48’ stage in the center of a rocky crag. Doja, banking on a combo of skills, artistry, and perseverance, did the rest. We've already presented "Love To Dream" and "Ain't Shit." Now comes the carnal coolness of "Need To Know." Doja shows us her boss side as she drives all the action in this steamy bedroom rumination, and her lithe Cali desert performance makes it all pop.

Welcome to the world of Doja Cat. Born and raised in L.A., the 24-year-old self-taught singer-rapper is a vet of sorts. The arts were central to her upbringing, and she started sharing her music on Soundcloud back in 2013. A year later she dropped her much-buzzed-about ‘Purrr!’ EP. Ever since, she’s nurtured an ever-growing array of feverish fans who revere her for combining a radiant charisma with unique flow and tongue-in-cheek lyrics (see: the irresistible“MOOO!”). Seems like Doja has designed her version of alt-R&B to take off in any direction she chooses. Tours with Lizzo and Theophilius London led right into 2018’s impressive ‘Amala,’ her debut proper, followed by last year’s ‘Hot Pink.’ That album’s “Say So” is currently clocking big numbers. Arresting visuals help. Her videos for both her radio juggernaut and "Rules" are wildly fun. When the Vevo production team united with the feline phenom to figure out performance ideas, the creative juices were flowing. The goal? Put the “cat” in Doja Cat - a decision that resulted in what’s probably our most ambitious studio build to date for a LIFT performance. For her “Streets” performance, we built Doja a massive bowl of 2%, where she was clearly in her element. And if that isn’t peak, then the human-sized scratching house is. Dressed in full cat-ear regalia, she pawed her way through the two-story structure, purring the lyrics to her R&B throwback jam “Say So.”

In the last decade no rapper has been on a more sustained heater than Future. With ‘Dirty Sprite 2’ and ‘What a Time To Be Alive,’ the Atlanta native changed the sound of mainstream hip-hop. With ‘HENDRXX’ and ‘Beast Mode 2,’ he took the mask off and crowned himself the Toxic King. This reign continues as “WAIT FOR U,” with Drake featured and Tems sampled, currently dominates radio. His new ‘I NEVER LIKED U’ album is further evidence that his artistic identity is broad and complex. The title comes off like a juvenile text response to being left on read. But it’s also a defensive phrase, a means of shielding true emotions. Future gets away with minimal interviews and a furtive social media presence because he wisely builds a gripping mythology into his music...and because he’s so damn prolific. So who is he? Check the music for answers. The 20-plus albums he’s made in a decade are diary entries, and like any autobiography the lines between truth and fiction get blurry. Like many, we’ve been fans for a while, previously capturing Official Live Performances with him in 2019. When it was determined we should run it back, the Vevo crew linked with Future in Miami, a city that embraces glitz and healthy hedonism. Perfect match all around. The 1975 - Oh Caroline | Vevo Official Live Performance
The 1975 don’t stand still. Their vision is broad, and every time they drop a new album, that vision widens a little bit further. Certainly that’s the case with ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language,’ the Brit outfit’s fifth studio affair and a radiant follow-up to 2020’s ‘Notes On A Conditional Form.’ But not “radiant” in a glimmering way, like a bauble that shines a bit too much. “Radiant” as in real. A sense of verité streaks through “All I Need To Hear” and “I’m In Love With You” – with Jack Antonoff, Matty Healy, and drummer George Daniel guiding the way the music was captured, it sounds like the band is playing them live. And that’s attractive. So we had Team Healy, which also features guitarist Adam Hann and bassist Ross MacDonald, celebrate their latest victory by burning through some of their new tunes for our Official Live Performances program. First up? “Oh Caroline.” Everything is well measured on this one, ‘cept for when Matty pours his heart out at the end. Stay tuned, more coming.

Limitless imagination is a defining characteristic of great musicians - J Balvin proves that. The Colombian superstar’s passion for creativity explodes past mere music-making, and heads into the realms of visual aesthetics, fashion and pop culture. In the last decade, the Medellin native has helped turn his city, and Latin America in general, into the coolest place to be in pop music. He wears Pikachu hoodies with not-even-dropped-yet Yeezys while riding the tops of charts from Canada to Chile. And from Pharrell to Bad Bunny to Colin Tilley, the urbano/reggaeton hero works with the only best. Naturally, we wanted to collaborate with him. When our teams joined forces in Miami to capture these performances, Balvin’s iridescent ideas flowed like the Magdalena. Taking inspiration from ‘Colores,’ the teams worked with Rio-based Penique Productions to turn the interior of a mansion into a vibrant representation of each song’s hue. “Azul” is the color of the blue sea, a symbol of Colombia's coast.
